English Language Challenges

 

Honestly, I've never been a fan of English classes, but I do feel that I have learned a lot from them throughout my life. This is the second English course I have taken at the university, and if there is one thing I can say about these English courses at our university, it is that they are always awkward hours of the day. 

Particularly about this course, I feel that I have improved my pronunciation, since school I did not have the possibility to start conversations in English and this class allows me to do it recursively. Another relevant topic of this course is the use of blogs, which I think have helped me to expand my lexicon, and consequently to make myself better understood in a conversation. On the other hand, it allowed me to realize the progress I have had regarding the understanding of the language. English is usually present in my life when I watch series or movies, which I have started to do much more recently, and I feel that this has been reflected in my ability to understand the English language. If I had to mention any aspect to improve in English, I think it would be pronunciation. Although here I comment that my pronunciation has improved during this course, but it is also true that it is an improvement from a very low level of pronunciation, and this course has shown me that the best way to improve it is through conversation

My dream job

 When i decided to study sociology, i didn´t think so much about it. Honestly, it was a decision made by discard. At school, I really enjoyed the subjects related to social sciences, and also had a genuine interest in understanding social issues in a systematic way, so I supposed that in sociology I could find certain answers to my questions, and maybe find my vocation. When i entered to sociology i found a very extensive field of knowledge, thing that scared my for a moment, but it also allowed me to develop my interest in different subjects contingent on sociology. Within such an extensive field of knowledge, the task of finding a particular area of ​​interest took me considerable time. at the end of my semester i discovered that my area of ​​interest is the sociology of education. It has always been difficult for me to think of a dream job as a sociologist, because many times the limited possibilities make us fall to private consultants that move away from our initial academic training. Nonetheless, my dream job would be to work on this matter, either in a research center or through work on public policies that aim to improve the quality of education and reduce the educational gaps that characterize our educational system.

My best vacation

Although I have had many fun vacations, my trip to the south of Chile in January 2020 has been the one i have enjoyed the most by far. On that occasion, together with two friends we toured several locations in southern Chile, mainly small towns on the big island of Chiloé, but we also visited Osorno and Valdivia. I think that one of the big reasons why I chose this vacation was because of the amount of activities and places that I was able to cover in a relatively short period of time. Now, if I had to choose the most beautiful place I could visit, I would choose Colún beach, a difficult beach to access and with an impressive landscape, where we camped for about 2 days (I will attach a photo of it). In a certain sense, I believe that the trips that involve living together for several days in a row have a great impact on the relationship that you establish with that person, in my case I think that this trip meant reinforcing a bond of friendship, which later in the pandemic was very important to emotionally cope with the situation

A country i'd like to visit

    I think that traveling and visiting a lot of places is a very exciting thing. But if I have to choose a place to go, i have to say that since I was a child i dream of visit London. First of all, I would like to visit London because it is a place with multiple attractions and cultural activities. Another reason why I would like to visit London is its climate, I am a person who enjoys cold and rainy climates a lot, especially in a especially in a city environment. I think that a large part of my choice lies in my special taste for the architecture of urban environments, London is a place with various architectural constructions from different eras, which makes it a place of great interest to me. In short, my great interest in visiting London is mainly related to the various cultural and artistic facets that characterize the city of London in particular and English culture in general.
